How we use your information

This privacy notice tells you what to expect when McOnie (The McOnie Agency Ltd) collects personal information. It applies to information we collect about:

  • Visitors to our websites and people who subscribe to our e-newsletter
  • People who use our services, e.g. existing clients and past clients
  • People whose services we use, e.g. suppliers
  • Prize winners
  • People’s information supplied to us by our clients
  • Job applications, current and former employees

McOnie ensures all our staff have been fully trained and made aware of their responsibilities under the GDPR framework and we undertake regular reviews of both our information security policies, security and best practice in respect of protection of personally identifiable information (PII).

Visitors to our websites

When someone visits we use the third party service, Google Analytics, to collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns, and A1 web stats to collection information and details of visitors. We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site and, where available, which company has visited the site. This information is only processed in a way which does not identify an individual person. Where we collect identifiable information through our website such as a company name we may use this to make a new business enquiry.

Contact us page

By completing the contact us page, your details will be stored in our database and will be used to enable us to make contact with you with relevant information. Your information will not be shared with any other organisation.


We use a third party provider, Mailchimp, to deliver our e-newsletters. We gather statistics around email openings and click throughs using industry standard technologies to help us monitor and improve our e-newsletter. Subscribers can cancel their subscription at any time and are given an easy way of doing this. For more information, please see Mailchimp’s Privacy Notice.

Security and performance

McOnie uses a third party service to help maintain the security and performance of the McOnie website. To deliver this service it processes the IP addresses of visitors to the McOnie website.

People who email us

We will monitor any emails sent to us, including file attachments, for viruses or malicious software. Please be aware that you have a responsibility to ensure that any email you send is within the bounds of the law.

People who use McOnie’s services, e.g. existing clients and past clients

We have to hold the details of the people who have requested our service and their team members in order to provide the service. However, we only use these details to provide the service the person has requested and for other closely related purposes. For example, we might use this information to carry out a survey to find out if a client is happy with the level of service they received or to send relevant marketing emails. They can cancel their subscription to our marketing emails at any time and are given an easy way of doing this.

People whose services we use, e.g. suppliers

We have to hold the details of the people who supply a service to us in order for the service to be carried out.

Prize winners

McOnie is the data controller for the information you provide during the process unless otherwise stated. Your data will be supplied to the relevant person in order to fulfil the prize giving.

People’s information supplied to us by our clients

McOnie is the data controller for the information provided by our clients. Data will be used under the guidance of the supplying client who is compliant with GDPR regulations. Data will not be passed on at any time.

Job applications, current and former employees

Complaints or queries

McOnie tries to meet the highest standards when collecting and using personal information. For this reason, we take any complaints we receive about this very seriously. We encourage people to bring it to our attention if they think that our collection or use of information is unfair, misleading or inappropriate. We would also welcome any suggestions for improving our procedures.

This privacy notice was drafted with brevity and clarity in mind. It does not provide exhaustive detail of all aspects of McOnie’s collection and use of personal information. Access to personal information

McOnie tries to be as open as it can be in terms of giving people access to their personal information. Individuals can find out if we hold any personal information by making a ‘subject access request’ under the Data Protection Act 1998. If we do hold information about you we will:

  • give you a description of it;
  • tell you why we are holding it;
  • tell you who it could be disclosed to; and
  • let you have a copy of the information in an intelligible form.

To make a request to McOnie for any personal information we may hold you need to put the request in writing, addressing it to our Office Manager, or writing to the address provided below.

If you agree, we will try to deal with your request informally, for example by providing the specific information you need over the telephone.

If we do hold information about you, you can ask us to correct any mistakes by, once again, contacting the Office Manager.

Disclosure of personal information

In many circumstances we will not disclose personal data without consent. However when we investigate a complaint, for example, we will need to share personal information with the organisation concerned and with other relevant bodies.
